An estimated 1 in 20,000 people worldwide are born with albinism. There are four types of known albinism.
Studies suggest that type 4 occurs more frequently in the Japanese and Korean populations than in people from other parts of the world.
Many people may have never had the opportunity to see the effect of albinism on a person of Asian descent.
“I’m an American Chinese with Albinism. For the most part, people assume I’m Caucasian. I get asked often if I’m Swedish or Islandic ” said Rachel Britt-Busler.
One of the features that the public most closely associate with being albino are red eyes. However, not all albinos have these. Many have blue eyes, or even green. It just depends.
