One of the most famous and notable voices of the past century belongs to James Earl Jones. With over 60 years of contributions, he was recently honored by Tonys with the Lifetime Achievement in Theater award.

After being welcomed on stage by thunderous applause, he thanked his late wife Cecilia Hart “for being such a wonderful companion in my life and in my work, and for being the great co-producer of our son Flynn.”

However, his acceptance was not televised as they presented his award to him during a commercial break. Why didn’t Tony televise Simba’s dad? Of all the things they could have cut short, this speech was not one of them.

It’s quite disappointing that an extra couple of minutes were not spared to give this legendary and culturally impactful man his moment. After his many contributions to the soundtrack of our lives, he deserves to get his flowers while he is still alive.
